Abstract

The article analyzes continuous professional development of teachers in an innovative economy and the factors constraining this process: stress, fatigue, subjective deterioration of the cardiovascular and nervous systems. The authors highlight the importance of using emotional regulators to improve teachers’ skills in modern conditions of the shift in professional development toward autonomy and network self-organization. The purpose of the study was to analyze the relationship between the value of professional success for teachers and their subjective well-being. The article presents the results of a comparative analysis of self-assessment of the state of their cardiovascular and nervous systems by teachers belonging to different gender and age groups who carry out their professional activities within and beyond the working time standards (the authors’ questionnaire, 759 respondents). The dynamics of teachers’ subjective well-being and the value of professional success as predictors of professional development are traced. The correlation between overwork as a stressful factor and self-assessment of the nervous system has been revealed. Self-assessment of the cardiovascular system in conditions of overwork has been found to mainly depend on the age of teachers. Teachers who work standard hours exhibit statistically significantly fewer age-related changes in their cardiovascular and nervous systems compared to those who work overtime. The study has revealed the general patterns of the correlation between teachers’ self-assessment of the state of their cardiovascular and nervous systems and the value of professional success. The article shows differences in the revealed correlations for men and women, both overworking and working standard hours. It substantiates higher professional reliability of female teachers, identifies age periods of exposure to professional stress as well as factors in the teaching profession that distract attention from signals of health problems.
