On the effectiveness evaluation of student sports clubs’ management

Abstract

In recent decades, the Russian Federation has paid great attention to the development of student sports. The Association of Student Sports Clubs, established in 2013 to coordinate the development of sports in educational institutions, currently unites more than 800 clubs at universities and vocational schools across the country. The ministries concerned have issued a number of regulations defining the direction and objectives of the activities of student sports clubs (SSCs). The further development of student sports and the observed increase in the number of SSCs necessitates ensuring an effective management system for them; the improvement of the management system, in turn, raises the question of objective criteria for assessing its quality. Without proper assessment of the quality of management, there can be no effective development of the structure itself. The existing system for evaluating the activities of SSCs is based on calculating the club’s rating, and this calculation, in turn, is based on key performance indicators, including the number of club members, the number of teams, and the number of events held. When forming the rating, great attention is paid to interaction with the media — the presence of the club’s own website, social networks pages, etc. is taken into account. However, the criteria on the basis of which the effectiveness of club management is currently assessed are often far from objective. The problems lie in the absence of criteria characterizing the involvement of students in the sports life of the university, in the lack of criteria for assessing the health and physical fitness of students as well as in the mixing of sports disciplines that are heterogeneous in terms of their impact on students’ health, in particular, e-sports.
