Abstract

Russian version of Mackenzie’s et. al. (2004) Inventory of Attitudes Toward Seeking Mental Health Services was tested on the community sample (n = 153, age: 18 to 62). Scales Indifference to Stigma and Help-seeking Propensity had good internal consistency (α = .84 and α = .79). Scale Psychological openness had α=.60. Exploratory factor analysis divided items of Psychological Openness into two factors, while two other factors had been replicated. New extracted factors were semantic similar to «Recognition of need for psychological help» (α= .63) and «Confidence in mental health professionals» (α = .65) in Fisher and Turner’s (1970) model of attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help. Four-factor solution had the best model fit indices (χ2 = 339.1, p < .001; CFI = .89; RMSEA = .050, CI 90 % = .036 to .062; ECVI = 3.26, CI 90 % = 2.97 to 3.60) compare to one-, two- and three-factor models. Data obtained on pilot study sample intend more negative attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help among Russians, comparing to Canadian standardization sample. Perspectives for an improving of psychometric properties of the inventory are discussed.
