The issues of student migration deserve research attention due to the importance of such migration in the socio-economic development of many regions and the influence of students’ expectations regarding this process. The relevance of the research is determined by a significant increase in the number of migrant applicants, who have certain expectations that are decisive in their intention to migrate to another region. In the course of theoretical analysis, the author reviewed domestic and foreign studies on student migration in order to identify important expectations from the migration process. Based on the analysis of data obtained through the questionnaire method (accidental sampling, criterion sampling, N = 604), the following scientific results were obtained. The main expectations in student migration were determined (expectations Δ av , %; their correspondence with reality Δ av , %): developed infrastructure (+17.5; +12.0); a wealth of historical and cultural heritage (+14.4; +14.9); opportunities for career-oriented networking (+13.8; +6.7). At the same time, the factors that the authors considered significant turned out to be the least expected by students: the availability of student accommodation (-20.1; -23.9); a more favorable climate (-7.1; -8.8); student benefits (-15.5; -15.8). Factor analysis of migration expectations identified three main components influencing student migration: broader opportunities for social networking; higher living costs due to developed infrastructure and a favorable climate; social support provided by the university. The article concludes that students tend to expect the implementation of external social factors during migration more than of internal ones, which is confirmed by other researchers. The data obtained can be useful in the implementation of youth migration policy of state and regional government bodies, as well as for further development of educational institutions and the formation of their policies.References
