Abstract

The successive crises of global capitalism testify to the profound systemic malaise of contemporary bourgeois civilization. This is what determines the heightened interest in Marx, whose work, just as a hundred years ago, is the subject of heated debate. The undying interest in Marx and the continuing controversy surrounding his teachings can also be explained by the fact that he is perhaps the only thinker whose ideas in the field of social and political philosophy have been put into practice, which changed the course of human history in the 20th century. The article "Theoretical Legacy of Marx and Modernity" consists of two parts. The first part gives a brief analysis of the creative heritage of the German thinker and shows that the strong side of Marx's teachings is the methodology of the study of society. But this methodology demonstrates its heuristic possibilities only when Marx's theory is seen not as a frozen dogma, but as a creative doctrine that must evolve as society changes. The paper shows which ideas and insights of Marx's economic doctrine are in demand today and require further development in connection with the transition of capitalism to its post-industrial stage and the formation of a monopoly global world order. Currently, Marx's political economy is not as controversial as philosophy and political theory and their correlation. The article analyzes the points of view existing in the scientific literature and shows the fallacy of separating Marx's political theory from his philosophy and even more so of their opposition. The paper also considers the problem of the authorship of political theory.
