Abstract

The object of the research is the scientific discourse of Mikhail Lomonosov, represented by texts in Russian and Latin that have not been studied in unity until now; the subject under study is Lomonosov’s genre system. The article demonstrates that the genre system presented in Lomonosov's scientific discourse fits into the modern classification according to pragmatic parameters; however, it has some differences. The group of purely scientific genres consists of monographs, dissertations, abstracts, or extended annotations as well as a number of small genres (notes, laboratory journals, etc.). The genre of the monograph has no name, but its structure is generally similar to the modern one, except for the absence of a mandatory conclusion and a list of references. The dissertatio genre corresponds to a modern peer-reviewed article and contains the same semantic blocks, but their sequence is not so strictly observed. Scientific evaluative genres are represented by objectio (critical feedback presented publicly), notes (private critical remarks), and reports (an analogue of a modern expert opinion on the expediency of publication). Scientific-official texts, called reports, can be regarded as analogues of modern memos. Scientific educational (academic) works on rhetoric, metallurgy, and physics hold an important place; all of them were written with a focus on application in the educational process. Distinguishing popular science texts is problematic, but possible. The genre of "word" corresponds to a public lecture. The Latin-Russian diglossia, characteristic of Lomonosov's scientific discourse, is determined by the parameter "sciences/humanities" and the genre of the text being created (purely scientific / academic, scientific-official, popular science).
