HOMONYMY IN THE CHINESE LANGUAGE AND ITS INFLUENCE ON THE CULTURE AND TRADITIONS

Abstract

One of the general phonetic characteristics of the Chinese language – homonymy has been considered in this article. It has been given the examples of the homonyms influence on the culture, customs and traditions of the inhabitants of China. Both the obsolete customs associated with the words and phrases consonance and the modern phenomena based on homophones have been discussed.
