АФРОАМЕРИКАНСКАЯ ЛИТЕРАТУРА «НАДИРА»: МИССИЯ ИНТЕЛЛИГЕНЦИИ И «ХОЖДЕНИЕ В НАРОД»

Период в развитии афроамериканской литературы после Гражданской войны и Реконструкции и до начала Гарлемского ренессанса (1870–1910 гг.) остается малоисследованным как в России, так и в США. Этот период получил в афроамериканистике название «надир» (термин афроамериканского историка и активиста панафриканского движения Р. У. Логана) – «низшая точка» в социальной, культурной, литературной истории афроамериканцев, которая, однако, стала и поворотной точкой, выводящей к новой эпохе – ХХ в. Ведущей культурной силой в это время является крайне малочисленная негритянская образованная элита – «средний класс». Главным «нервом» афроамериканской литературной истории становится напряжение между характерными для этого класса ассимиляционистскими устремлениями, викторианским кодексом благопристойности и расовым барьером (расизм и сегрегация), характерным для послевоенного американского общества, одержимого страхом мисцегенации. В этих условиях негритянский средний класс, ощущающий свою социальную отчужденность от братьев по расе (неграмотная масса черного населения) и расовую отчужденность от братьев по классу (белый американский средний класс), приходит к пониманию необходимости расовой солидарности, принимая на себя миссию по осуществлению программы прогресса черной расы, и делает ставку на высокие моральные качества «простого народа» – черных сельских и городских низов. Хотя в статье фигурируют крупнейшие авторы рубежа XIX–XX вв. (Ч. Чеснат, П. Данбар), основным материалом для исследования стали малоизвестные образцы литературы этого периода: рассказы В. Эрл-Мэтьюз, романы Дж. У. Х. Говарда, У. Стоуэрса и У. Андерсона, стихи С. Брауна.Библиографические ссылки
