Энн Изабелла Теккерей в основном была известна предисловиями биографического характера к сочинениям своего отца У. М. Теккерея. Лишь в 1980-е гг. ее собственные сочинения привлекли внимание историков литературы, которые были склонны оценивать их как написанные под мощным влиянием сочинений отца. Целью данной статьи является создание общего представления о творчестве Энн Теккерей, а также выявление в нем как черт викторианской литературы, так и феминистских тенденций. Энн Теккерей выступает в разных литературных ипостасях. Как прототип двух героинь художественной прозы, Тео Ламберт из «Виргинцев» У. М. Теккерея и миссис Хилбери из «Ночи и дня» В. Вулф, Энн Теккерей может показаться типичной викторианкой, соответствующей жeнскому идеалу эпохи в своем стремлении служить отцу и остальным членам семьи. Как автор эссе и художественной прозы Энн предстает как независимый мыслитель, стремящийся изменить мир к лучшему. Очевидно, ее вера в то, что женщина способна влиять на судьбы мира, привела ее к созданию произведений о молодых женщинах, как вымышленных, так и реальных, которые боролись за свое счастье. Отрицание замужества как единственного пути к нему придает произведениям Энн отчетливое феминистское звучание. После публикации «Мисс Энджел», беллетризованной биографии А. Кауфман, Энн приступила к очеркам о писательницах, впоследствии составившим «Книгу сивилл», первый опыт истории женской литературы, во многих отношениях предвосхищающий «Литературных женщин» Э.
