Consultative and advisory bodies for interethnic relations: ethnic groups representation at the subfederal level in Russia
Keywords:
consultative and advisory bodies, ethnic groups, ethnic group representation, state ethnic policyAbstract
As a rule, resolving of ethnic conflicts that concern ethnic groups’ self-identity implies institutionalization both of power sharing mechanisms and mechanisms of interethnic interaction. Advisory bodies on ethnic affairs are mechanisms and institutions for interethnic interaction. There are three levels of such advisory bodies in contemporary Russia: federal, regional and municipal. As for the regional advisory bodies, they are the most common in Russia and established in all 85 regions. These regional bodies are operating with a varying degree of activity in different regions for the purpose of interethnic harmonization. It seems that ethnic representation in advisory bodies correlates with the ethnic composition of a region and its formal status. Based on methods of descriptive statistics and correlation analysis, the article verifies this assumptionDOI: 10.17072/2218-1067-2016-4-168-179References
