St. John's wort (Hypericum maculatum Crantz) is a pharmacopoeial medicinal plant that grows in the forest zone of the Komi Republic. A comparative study of five cultivated accessions of St. John's wort of different geographical origin and a wild-growing accession was conducted. It was found that, when grown from seedlings, St. John's wort plants of the first year of life are in the immature ontogenetic state of the pregenerative period by the end of the growing season, and bloom and bear fruit from the second year of life. The winter hardiness of plants under cultivated conditions was determined, and the most winter-hardy accessions were identified: Vizinga, Troitsko-Pechorsk, and Cheboksary. It was found that under cultivated conditions, St. John's wort maintains the phenological development rhythms characteristic of this species in the wild. Plants entered the flowering phase in late June – early July. The flowering period lasts 21-24 days, regardless of the seasonal weather conditions. Seeds ripen in late August. The growing season lasts 102-108 days. All cultivated St. John's wort accessions were found to produce 4-5 generative shoots per plant in their second year of life. In their third year, the number of shoots increased 4-6 fold, reaching a maximum of 16-30 shoots per plant. In a wild-growing accession from a natural population in the Syktyvdinsky District of the Komi Republic, the number of generative shoots varied from 3 to 6 per plant. It was shown that, under the influence of abnormally warm weather, young generative plants in cultivation are capable of forming large, branched inflorescences. A decrease in parameters characterizing the shoot's floral zone was noted in the third and fourth years of life. A biochemical evaluation of the medicinal raw material of St. John's wort was conducted. High levels of total flavonoids (2.65-6.82%) were detected in the aboveground raw material phytomass of St. John's wort specimens from different geographical origins, significantly exceeding the requirements for medicinal St. John's wort (at least 1.5%). Four specimens – Arkhangelsk, Petrozavodsk, Troitsko-Pechorsk, and Cheboksary – were identified as having high levels of total naphthodianthrone pigments (0.05-0.08%).
