Currently, the introduction of shade-tolerant and shade-loving ornamental herbaceous perennials, including subshrubs, into mass urban greening landscaping is becoming increasingly relevant. However, today the range of perennials recommended for mass urban greening of sites with various use patterns is limited and requires expansion. The aim of the study is to identify sustainable and ornamental herbaceous perennials, including subshrubs, that are promising for use in various urban public green spaces (squares, public gardens, boulevards, and parks). The work was carried out on the territory of the "Shadow Garden" collection-exposition of the N.V. Tsitsin Main Botanical Garden of RAS. Over the more than 80-year history of the collection, more than 1,000 taxa from various regions have been tested. Various observations were carried out annually according to generally accepted methods: phenological phases were recorded, phenorhythmotypes were determined, and the introduction success and prospects for urban greening of the studied samples were evaluated. One of the results of the long-term introduction experiment is a list that includes 58 species and cultivars of ornamental herbaceous shade-tolerant and shade-loving plants. A flowering calendar for the recommended ornamental plants is presented. The growth pattern of the studied samples is analyzed. Notably, 78% of the studied samples were revealed to exhibit a clonal growth pattern, allowing them to be used to create ground cover under the canopies of mature trees. The ornamental period of the studied plants is analyzed. Additionally, 83% of the samples were found to belong to the spring-summer-autumn-green phenorhythmotype, retaining their ornamental value throughout the entire growing season.References
