Abstract

The paper examines in detail the ecological and physiological prerequisites for the formation of antioxidant and antibacterial potentials, including adaptation to extreme phyllosphere conditions (UV radiation, ambient pH, etc.), symbiotic interactions with host plants, and evolutionary mechanisms of protective metabolite synthesis. Key methodological approaches are summarized, ranging from from cultural isolation methods and molecular techniques (16S rRNA sequencing, metagenomics) to functional Screening using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) stable free radical scavenging assay for antioxidants and zones of inhibition for antimicrobial substances. In addition, promising areas for the biotechnological use of epiphytes are identified, including the development of probiotic preparations based on beneficial strains (Pseudomonas fluorescens, Bacillus subtilis) and the integration of epiphytes into agronomy to increase plant stress tolerance. This review study focuses on the systematization and comprehensive analysis of current scientific data on the metabolic potential of epiphytic microorganisms acting as producers of antioxidant and antimicrobial compounds. Most of the studies reviewed in this article focus on identifying and characterizing bioactive compounds produced by epiphytes, which primarily inhabit marine algae. The results of further research in this area may contribute to the development of new and promising preparations.
