Candidates for St. Petersburg Municipal Elections: Typology of Success

The article researches into the results of qualitative-comparative analysis of the candidates for municipal elections in St. Petersburg during the last two electoral cycles (2009, 2014), using the data available through the online archive of the Central Electoral Commission of the Russian Federation. The primary goal of the research is to work out the standard types of successful candidates. The research results show that the usually derived “portraits of successful candidates” can only be applied to candidates representing few major political parties. For representatives of less prominent parties, election success mostly appears to be a matter of chance.
