Post-Colonial Discourse and Scottish Regionalism
Keywords:
discourse, regionalism, post-colonialism, Scotland, nationalism, region, cultural identityAbstract
The article considers influence of the discourse of post-colonialism reproduced at the level of official regional power on the regional policy in modern Scotland. In the second half of the 20th century Scottish politicians gradually rejected postcolonial discourse as a key aspect of regional political identity construction in favour of more neutral demands of regionalism. The purpose of this paper is to search for the reasons and factors of such a change. The rejection of post-colonial discourse was caused by a shift of emphasis in regional policy from cultural aspects to economic and social targets. The article also shows stage-by-stage development of relationship between regionalism as a political policy and post-colonial discourseDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.17072/2218-1067-2015-3-66-78References
