Positions of social-democratic parties and parties of the “new wave” on immigration policy

The author studies attitudes of social-democratic parties and parties of the “new wave” to the problem of immigration. The aim of this paper is to identify the changes in positions of these parties on immigration policy. For this purpose, manifestos of the parties from 1975 to 2010 have been studied. The author concludes that immigration issues have become more popular in political rhetoric of the left parties, which especially concerns mainstream parties – social democrats. In most cases, social-democratic parties tend to show more negative attitude to immigration issues.
