The world of ethnic regional authonomies: introducing a new database
Keywords:
ethnic regional autonomies, database, units of observation, variablesAbstract
Granting regional self-rule to an ethnic group is considered in the contemporary world as one of the most common ways to prevent, manage and resolve ethnic conflicts. In this context, it is rather surprising that there has not yet been created a specialized database on ethnic territorial autonomies. The Ethnic Regional Autonomies Database (ERAD) is aimed at filling the gap. The concept of ethnic territorial autonomy is discussed in the article. Some operational characteristics of ethnic territorial autonomies have been developed and justified. Based on these characteristics, a list of ethnic regional autonomies around the world has been composed. A brief description of the database consisting of 150 variables grouped into six parts is presented in the article. ERAD provides researchers with a useful instrument for large-N quantitative comparative studies of the contemporary ethnic regional autonomies.DOI: 10.17072/2218-1067-2016-4-66-93References
