Dadashova S. E. European Migration Crisis in British Institutional Discourse on the Eve of Brexit
Keywords:
institutional discourse, migration crisis, Brexit, discourse analysis, discursive strategiesAbstract
The study presented in the paper is a continuation of the research into European institutional discourses during the migration crisis in Europe. The research is based on the official texts of the British government and the European Union published in 2014 and 2015. The key methods employed are computational linguistics and critical discourse analysis. The study has revealed significant differences between European and British discourses regarding the evaluation of the current situation with refugees and attitudes towards them. In addition, the present study has proved that in the official discourse of the British government on the issue of excessive migration, there were no prerequisites for Brexit due to uncontrolled migration.
