КУЛЬТ ГЕРКУЛЕСА-МАГУСАНА КАК ФАКТОР ФОРМИРОВАНИЯ БАТАВСКОЙ ИДЕНТИЧНОСТИ

Рассматривается роль культа Геркулеса в формировании идентичности племени батавов. На основе анализа данных римской письменной традиции и результатов археологических исследований делается вывод о важном консолидирующем значении культа. В римском Геркулесе персонифицированы важнейшие элементы батавской идентичности – военное искусство и скотоводство. Культ его являлся также связующим звеном между Римом и батавами. Эти факторы обусловили слияние представлений об античном Геркулесе и туземном боге-герое Магусане. Определяющую роль в формировании нового культа сыграла батавская аристократия.Библиографические ссылки
