Принц Альберт и подготовка первой Всемирной промышленной выставки в Лондоне

Аннотация

Предпринимается попытка выявить роль супруга королевы Виктории принца Альберта в подготовке в британской столице первой Всемирной промышленной выставки. Обращается внимание на дискуссионность вопроса о том, кем первоначально была высказана идея проведения выставки. На основе опубликованных источников, исследований британских, американских, российских историков подробно анализируется деятельность принца Альберта, занимавшего с 1847 г. должность председателя Королевского общества искусств, а в 1850 г. возглавившего Королевскую комиссию по проведению выставки. Показаны трудности, с которыми пришлось столкнуться устроителям выставки (финансирование проекта, выбор места проведения и выставочного здания, реклама и пр.). Подчеркивается, что успешное осуществление плана подготовки выставки в Лондоне явилось результатом большой умственной и творческой работы команды ее организаторов под руководством принца Альберта, которым удалось внести вклад в мировое выставочное дело в целом, создав классическую модель проведения подобных мероприятий. Первая Всемирная промышленная выставка явилась грандиозным событием для современников. Ее огромный успех способствовал росту популярности и авторитета принца Альберта в Великобритании. Признанием его заслуг по праву можно считать национальный мемориал, воздвигнутый в Кенсингтонском парке Лондона, где помещена статуя Альберта, держащего в правой руке каталог Всемирной промышленной выставки 1851 г. Выдающееся, не имевшее до этого времени аналогов мероприятие, одним из вдохновителей и организатором которого был принц Альберт, положило начало сохраняющейся сегодня традиции проведения международных выставок.doi 10.17072/2219-3111-2018-2-38-46
