Abstract

Pyasino is a lake of glacial origin located in the southwest of the North Siberian Lowland (Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia), approximately 20 km from Norilsk. The measurements based on the Landsat-8 (Landsat-9) and Sentinel-2 remote sensing data (81 images for 2013–2024) suggest a statistically significant linear dependence of the water level and surface area of Lake Pyasino. The paper presents the general trends of the lake’s hydrological regime in seasonal aspects for the given period. Seasonal dynamics of the water level and, accordingly, the lake area coincide with the hydrological regime of the Norilskaya River, having its flood peak in July. The maximum area during the study period varied from 462 km2 in 2013 to 873 km2 in 2014, and its minimum – from 307 to 619 km2 in 2013 and 2023, respectively. The smallest lake area of 307 km2 was recorded during the open water period on 27 August 2013 at a 24.9 m level, while the largest (873 km2) – on 13 July 2014 at a 30.7 m level. In general, the lake area reduced in 2013, 2016, 2020, and 2022; its increase was noted in 2014, 2019, and 2023. The minimum water level (24.9 m) of Lake Pyasino was recorded on 27 August 2013,  whereas the maximum (30.7 m) – on 13 July 2014. According to our measurements, the greatest long-term water level
amplitude was 5.8 m, the lowest annual amplitude – 3.8 m (2020), and the average lake level – 28.6 m.
