THE POLITICS OF MEMORY IN THE STEPPES OF TRANSBAIKALIA: MNEMONIC LANDSCAPE OF THE REPUBLIC OF BURYATIA

The article analyzes the problems of memory politics in modern Buryatia. The example of Buryatia demonstrates the specifics of memory politics at the regional level, where mnemonic interactions and narratives may differ from the corresponding processes at the federal level. Like most regions with autonomy status, Buryatia is distinguished by a more intense regime of historical memory compared to regions where ethnicity has no territorial dimension. The interactions of key mnemonic actors are considered, the main zones of conflicts associated with different interpretations of the historical past are identified. Particular attention is paid to the politics of memory associated with the role of Buddhism in the history and culture of the region.References
