Abstract

The article presents the results of an experimental study to identify the main physical mechanisms affecting on the uniform emulsions production. The process of membrane emulsification is under investigation. Water and silicone oil are selected as the pair of working fluids. The influence of the external flow velocity, as well as the dispersed phase volume flow rate on the size and uniformity of produced particles was studied. It was shown that the increase in the external flow intensity  leads to an increase in the particle size, but has practically no effect on the degree of dispersion. On the other hand, an increase in oil consumption entails an increase in both the mean value and the standard deviation of droplet sizes. Thus, the optimal range of the parameters values was determined, within which the increase in productivity has a little effect on the emulsion quality.
