Abstract

Heat transfer from a localized heat source in a cylindrical fluid layer was studied experimentally. Experiments were performed for fluids with different values of the Prandtl number and for the Rayleigh number varied from 105 to 107. Particular attention has been paid to the ways of heat control which leads to different boundary conditions (constant temperature or a constant heat flux). We investigated the influence of thermal boundary conditions on flow structure and intensity of heat transfer. The dependences of the Nusselt number on the Rayleigh number were obtained.
