Племянник императора Константина I цезарь Далмаций-младший и нижнедунайская граница Римской империи в 335–337 годах: военный аспект проблемы

Аннотация

Статья посвящена военной карьере Далмация-младшего – племянника императора Константина I Великого. В 335 г. Константин наделил Далмация титулом цезаря и передал ему в управление земли по нижнему течению Дуная: Фракию, Малую Скифию, нижнюю Мезию, Македонию, Дакию и Грецию. Но уже через два года, в 337 г., Далмаций-младший был убит в ходе дворцового заговора в Константинополе. На основании материалов нарративных источников (анонимная Эпитома о Цезарях, Аноним Валезия, часть I, а также труды Зосима и Иоанна Лида), донесших до нас весьма скудные сведения о военных и политических достижениях Далмация-младшего, делается вывод о том, что племянник Константина I занимал должность военного магистра – командующего войсками экспедиционной (полевой) армии comitatenses, располагавшейся во Фракии. Предполагается, что Далмаций-младший стал в 335 г. одним из первых двух военных магистров, должности которых учредил Константин I. Исходя из новейшего эпиграфического документа – надписи на каменной стене из нижней Мезии, опубликованной в 2016 г., построено заключение о том, что основу войск Далмация-младшего составляли подразделения мобильной далматской кавалерии. Полагается, что само учреждение должностей военных магистров произошло именно в 335 г. Эта военно-административная реформа совпала по времени с наделением Далмация титулом (или рангом) цезаря. Показывается, что главной задачей Далмация-младшего была оборона нижнего Дуная, прежде всего Фракии, от набегов готов.doi 10.17072/2219-3111-2018-2-5-14
