Пограничные гарнизоны позднеримской Исаврии в середине IV века: к вопросу о сведениях жития св. Конона из Исаврии

Аммиан Марцеллин – наш главный источник по позднеримской военной истории второй половины IV в. – к сожалению, не дает подробных сведений о положении и функциях пограничных гарнизонов, оборонявших равнинную Исаврию (провинция на юго-востоке Малой Азии) от нападений горных племен исавров. Сведения же эпиграфики (надпись, в которой упоминается Бассидий Лавриций, наместник Исаврии) и агиографии (житие св. Конона из Исаврии) в сопоставлении с данными Аммиана Марцеллина позволяют расширить наши знания о пограничных гарнизонах Исаврии в этот сложный период. На основании указанных источников рассматривается механизм взаимодействия местных подразделений Исаврии и экспедиционных войск, которые перемещались на территорию провинции для более эффективной борьбы с исаврами, а также прослеживается, как это взаимодействие изменило систему обороны региона в 354–359 гг. Как полагается, вплоть до 359 г. центральная римская администрация не переводила в Исаврию какие-либо новые войсковые подразделения – защита данной провинции осуществлялась местными пограничными гарнизонами, которые были сформированы еще в конце III в. Эти гарнизоны пополнялись за счет местного населения Исаврии, но из-за своей немногочисленности и неэффективности действий они не могли своими силами противостоять набегам исавров. Только в 359 г. в Исаврии разместились новые экспедиционные войска, находившиеся под командованием Бассидия Лавриция. Тем не менее сведения жития св. Конона из Исаврии позволили заключить, что в борьбе с племенами исавров Бассидию помогали местные пограничные гарнизоны, которые хорошо знали тактику исавров и маршрут их территориальных перемещений. Соответственно, после завершения боевых действий именно Бассидий Лавриций стал первым наместником Исаврии, который сочетал полномочия военной и гражданской власти.doi 10.17072/2219-3111-2019-2-62-67Библиографические ссылки
