CADIS: WHITE CITY SURROUNDED BY THE OCEAN

Abstract

This brief essay presents a portrait of the city of Cadiz. The essay has been inspired by the walks around the city, it whimsically combines visual images, color, smells, sounds, myth and moder-nity, historical and geopolitical reminiscences. This is the city of the eternal southern siesta, «key to the sea», «key to Spain», «key to Gibraltar». The author has been looking for a «formu-la of the place» and has found it in the definition of «Puerta de la Tierra — the gateway of the earth».
