Abstract

DANCE FESTIVALS AND COMPETITIONS AS AN ELEMENT OF DOMESTIC TOURISM DEVELOPMENTThe article discusses dance festivals and competitions as a resource for event tourism. Over 400 dance competitions are held in Russia in various categories, including dance sports. These events are capable of attracting tourist flows, but this does not happen. Using the example of the inter-national festivals «Baltic Constellation» (St. Petersburg) and «Blue Rose» (Perm), the author shows how a professional festival can transform into a tourist event. There are over 370 studios and dance schools in Perm. A large group of citizens is involved in the development of dance cul-ture, which means that the city has the potential to develop a large-scale dance project, which will be intersting not only for the participants of dance studios and collectives, but also for tour-ists from other regions.
