HISTORICAL ASPECTS OF THE SPATIAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE HOTEL COMPLEX OF KRASNODAR CITY

Abstract

None of the major Russian cities has developed so rapidly in recent decades. A comparison of large cities shows that since 2008, Krasnodar has firmly held the second position in Russia in terms of the absolute volume of multi-apartment housing construction (second only to Moscow), and in the volume of commissioning of retail, office and hotel space per capita, Krasnodar belongs to the championship in all of Eastern Europe. Tourist and recreational specialization has increased, the flow of domestic and interregional, including transit, visitors has increased many times, the capital of the region began to play the role of a place of regular work and rest for hundreds of thousands of residents of the Krasnodar Territory. This makes Krasnodar today the most representative object of study of the problems of spatial development and territorial organization of the urban service sector, including the hotel complex. Krasnodar is radically different from other major Russian cities in the pace, level of development of the tourism industry and the nature of the problems that are becoming relevant. According to the provision of rooms, Krasnodar, in which at the end of 2012 there were 4.6 hotel rooms per 1,000 inhabitants, left behind Moscow (3.3 rooms), St. Petersburg (3.2 rooms) and Rostov-on-Don (2.6 rooms). The city occupies an intermediate position between major Russian and European tourist centers. This suggests that Krasnodar cannot be assessed as an ordinary city of regional importance with a catch-up type of hospitality development. The development of its hotel industry has turned out to be much more dynamic than in the largest tourist centers of Eastern Europe.
