ON THE EDGES OF THE SATYRIC POETICS: "THE HISTORY OF A TOWN" BY SALTYKOV-SHCHEDRIN

Abstract

Some features of the poetics of M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin's "The History of a Town" are analyzed in the article. Archaic genre structure and proximity to symbolic systems of comic folklore paradoxically combine with esoteric codes and a high degree of "literariness". An analysis of the principles of the poetics of the novel allows us to outline the ways of interpreting the author's historical and metaphysical views in the "The History of a Town".
