Abstract

This paper presents numerical simulations of oscillations of an electrically charged gas suspension in an acoustic resonator with electric potentials applied to the resonator walls. The mathematical model utilizes a continuum technique for modeling the dynamics of multiphase media in Euler coordinates, accounting for the interaction between the gas and the dispersed phase. The dynamics of the carrier medium are described by a system of Navier-Stokes equations for a compressible, heat-conducting gas. Aerosol dynamics are calculated in the monodisperse approximation for various sizes of dispersed inclusions in electrically neutral and electrically charged gas suspensions. The influence of the volume content of the dispersed phase and the size of the dispersed inclusions on the oscillation intensity of the carrier medium and the dispersed phase is investigated, with and without the influence of the Coulomb force. Numerical calculations demonstrate that in an electrically neutral gas suspension, with an increasing volume fraction of the dispersed phase and a decreasing particle size, at a fixed volume fraction, the oscillation velocity of the carrier medium and the dispersed component decreases. The oscillation velocity of fine particles is consistent with the oscillation velocity of the carrier medium. The study has found that in electrically charged gas suspensions, the velocity of the gas suspension components is greater than in an electrically neutral gas suspension. This can be explained by the fact that the deposition of dispersed particles on the resonator walls under the influence of the electric field reduces the influence of the dispersed phase on the oscillations of the carrier medium. As a result of the higher velocity of the carrier medium in an electrically charged gas suspension, the dispersed particles also have a higher velocity compared to the velocity of dispersed particles in an electrically neutral gas suspension. Numerical calculations demonstrate that in gas suspensions with a high-volume content and in gas suspensions with a smaller size of dispersed inclusions, the influence of the electric field on the dynamics of the mixture components is more pronounced than in gas suspensions with a low content of the dispersed phase or in gas suspensions with coarse particles.
