Abstract

The article discusses the genre features of the short story by the American writer J. Finney "The Face in the Photo". An attempt is made to define the genre of the concept of "photoekphrastic fantasy detective". The classic detective component of the story in the finale is modified due to the complication of the finale: the policeman finds himself at the mercy of an accomplice of the wanted criminals. The fantasy component is realized by moving the characters from the present to the past. Photoekphrastic component is realized on the account of photographic ekphrasies. The totality of all these elements is dependent on the statement of the leading problem – the degree of human responsibility for interference in the past.
