Sandstones of the Salikhovo formation, Vendian in the section of well 4 Aslykul, Volga-Uralian area (electron microscopy data of rock-forming and accessory minerals)

Abstract

The Salikhovo Formation of the Upper Vendian of the Volga-Uralian area is an important lithostratigraphic horizon for interregional correlations; the presence of oil and gas manifestations allows us to consider the suite as an object for hydrocarbon exploration. Sandstones of the Salikhovo Formation (well 4 Aslykul) were studied using a scanning electron microscope. The composition of rock-forming and accessory minerals was clarified, previously undiagnosed minerals of rare earth elements were identified, which will allow us to further identify additional correlation criteria and clarify possible sources of clastics for the sandstones of the Salikhovo Formation.
