Abstract

The article is devoted to the political usage of modern Russian commemoration days and public holidays associated with traditional values. In particular, the article discusses the Day of Christianization of Kievan Rus, the Day of Slavic culture and writing, the Day of family, love and fidelity, Father's Day and Mother's Day. The need to expand the holiday calendar and the existence of holidays with "Russian roots", which would be dedicated to the preservation of culture and historical heritage, was announced at the beginning of the third presidential term of V.V. Putin. The article shows that the political regime pays more attention to commemorative days, which are already based on a historical narrative. Festive events and practices become the subject of construction by non-state and public actors (the Russian Orthodox Church, foundations, NGOs), and regional administrations. Memorable days and holidays are important for actors whose public actions are associated with the support of the state in difficult times.
