Abstract

The book by Joseba Agirreazkuenaga, Basque historian and Professor at the University of the Basque Country, is devoted to the key issues of history and historiography of the Basques. The main advantage of the monography is that it systematizes works of Basque researchers and, based on that, presents the author’s view of the Basque people’s independent history. For a long time, the study of the Basques’ history was conducted only in the context of Spain and France. The Basques are thought to have no history of their own, and this is the problem the author of the book is trying to solve. Despite the seeming narrow specialization, the book may be of interest not only to historians but also to political scientists, ethnologists and philologists who are engaged in the study of the Basque people since the author presents a complete and consistent picture of the development of the Basque Country in academic works of different periods. DOI: 10.17072/2218-1067-2020-1-127-130
