THE TURKIC WORLD AS AN ETHIC WORLD: AN ALTERNATIVE PERSPECTIVE ON THE POLITICAL DIMENSION OF IDENTITY

Deep changes began in the last third of the 20th century. At the same time, researchers focus on the problems of changing the world order (system of international relations). As a result, the comprehension of some less visible, but also significant phenomena and processes is poorly represented in the scientific discourse. Meanwhile, such traditional (pre-Westphalian) identities as ethnic, confessional, and linguistic identities are becoming political factors, leading to the emergence of such phenomena as special transnational communities and spaces (worlds). One of the most prominent of such worlds is the Turkic world, but the scientific discourse is dominated by the state-centric approach to the analysis of this phenomenon, the analysis of the phenomenon is mainly conducted through the foreign policy of states, through the national interests of state actors. However, the factor of ethnic community is not exhausted only by this. The article formulates the concept of neo-traditionalist (traditionalist-identitarian, neo-identitarian) worlds and ethnic worlds as one of their variants on the basis of the theory of identity. The aim of the article is to conceptualize neo-traditionalist worlds as a theoretical tool and to operationalize it through the analysis of the basic characteristics of the Turkic world. At the same time, the article does not pretend to analyze the subtleties and emphases typical for the country studies of specialists. The Turkic world in this case is an illustration for the concept of neo-traditionalist (traditionalist-identitarian) worlds (in the variant of ethnic worlds).References
