The article examines the importance of the romantic tradition in the work of Wolfgang Hilbig. It is shown that the writer's works are not only a reflection of the ideological and social conflicts of German life at the end of the twentieth century, but an example of an allusive appeal to the ideas of Romanticism and world culture in general. Romantic elements of behavior can be traced in the biography of W. Hilbig and already in his early lyrics. In the novels “Ich” and “Das Provisorium”, the theme of bourgeoisness and vulgarity of being, characteristic of romantics, sounds. In general, the work of W. Hilbig can be perceived as an expectation of a new sacred Word.Downloads
