Abstract

The article presents an analysis of the novel “The Life of an Unknown Man” by Andreï Makine from the metaphorical perspective of the identity crisis of an emigrant. Conceptual metaphors that reveal stereotypical ideas of emigration, motherland and the identity of an emigrant are specified in structural metaphors that create new concepts. These concepts implement a transition from the the positive image of Russia to a negative one as well as a total change of an emigrant’s idea of herself. The initial ontological metaphorical representation of an emigrant makes transition from a geographical concept to a time concept.
