Means of Rhythm Representation in The Watch by G. Swift

Abstract

The paper presents the results of the investigation of rhythm representation in The Watch by G. Swift. The relevance of the work is due to the need to study rhythm in a literary text, since it combines the main parameters of literary dominance, such as literary linguistic form, imagery and ideological-emotive unity. The purpose is to identify and analyze the means of rhythm representation in the selected short story. The research methods employed are general scientific (analysis, synthesis, interpretation, systematization, description), linguistic (stylistic, contextual analysis) and methods of integral philological analysis which underlines the unity of form and content of a literary text. The findings demonstrate that rhythm is presented by means of language (phonetics, lexis and grammar) and at the level of overall structure and composition of the text.
