Motive of Exile in M. Puig’s Novel “Pubis Angelical”

Abstract

The article is aimed to analyze the motive of exile in M. Puig’s novel   «Pubis Angelical» (1979) written during the first years of his forced emigration. It is revealed that the motive of exile is connected to the motive of death and borderline state. The overcoming of other-being happens in two axes: the protagonist is placed not only between the old (Pozzi) and the new (Beatris) reality, but between the past and the future that are shown through the dreams about Actress/Mistress and W-218. The novel is deeply based on the author’s personal experience.
