Abstract

Stalking is a common phenomenon in the world that describes a number of problems associated with the invasion of an individual's privacy. The problem of stalking has become most widespread with the development of technologies that simplify the pursuit of a victim for a long time without interruption, which is probably why this word is most often used in Internet communication. This concept was chosen due to the growing trend of its usage in scientific works, media and cinematography. This research was held in the field of several areas of linguistics: semantics and ecolinguistics and corpus linguistics. Etymological, lexicographic and contextual analysis allow us to establish the origin of a word and trace the transformation of its meaning in modern communication. The authors of the article also research synonyms of the lexeme stalking in Russian, English and Spanish and demonstrate that the most of the words cannot be considered synonyms as they do not reflect the main essence of the phenomenon of stalking. The word stalking in Spanish and Russian cultures has not yet gained a complete understanding and has entered the speech of both Russian- and Spanish-speaking society quite recently, which confirms the relevance and prospects of this research.
