Abstract

The proposed article analyses the peculiarities of such unit of natural-landscape code of English linguoculture as garden, fixed in phraseological units of the English language. Phraseological units make the speech not only more expressive, but also allow to learn the history of the people, understand the originality of its culture and everyday life. The main objective of this article consists in identification, analysis and description of cultural meanings of the above-mentioned unit as a part of phraseological units and paremias. As a result of human mastering of the surrounding reality, a system of signs of the material and spiritual world emerges, which are endowed with a certain cultural meaning – a set of cultural codes that make up the national-cultural space of any ethnos. Nature observation, experience accumulation, cultural values, all these are kept and are conveyed to the new generations. Phraseological units with the component garden are interpreted as a natural-landscape code. It is one of the sources of understanding the way of life and the world view of the nation. Besides that, some cultural information hidden in the nature images of phraseological units is described in the article. It is necessary for understanding the peculiarities of British mentality.
