Abstract
This article provides a study of the genesis and the content of the category of linguistic tolerance. The relevance of the research in this category is due to the fact that it will allow to use the results of the study for the prevention, settling and resolution of conflicts. A comparative analysis of the related concepts is carried out: “language tolerance”, “verbal tolerance” and “linguistic tolerance”. It is noted that the content of the three related concepts is not identical. In the related concepts, different authors focus on various aspects of the category under study: the diversity of linguistic manifestations, a set of norms, a special language of communication, professional quality, and the behavior model. The article examines the key meaning-formation concept of linguistic tolerance – the tolerance itself. The content of the concept of tolerance in the humanities is considered: philosophy, psychology, sociology, pedagogy, social work, conflict studies. In some areas of knowledge, tolerance is interpreted in several meanings. Thus, in philosophy, tolerance is simultaneously defined as a quality of personality, a moral virtue and a prerequisite for the success of scientific discussions. In sociology, tolerance is considered as the tolerance for someone else's way of life, as endurance in relation to unfavorable emotional factors and as the absence or weakening of a response to unfavorable factors. In conflict studies, tolerance is understood as a principle of the human coexistence and as the exclusion of aggression towards others. In other humanities fields of knowledge, the term tolerance has a more specific content.
