ASPECTS OF INTERACTION OF THE CATEGORIES OF INTENSITY AND EXPRESSION IN THE EMOTIONAL-CAUSATIVE CATEGORICAL SEMANTIC COMPLEX

Abstract

The article deals with the category of intensity and aspects of its interaction with the emotive-causative semantic complex. The categorical semantic complex is understood by us as "a set of semantic categories functionally united by a common goal, a common purpose, a common intentionality – the actualization of such meanings that arise at the intersection of two or more categories. As a result of such intercategorical interaction, an emotive-intensive-causative categorical semantic subcomplex arises, the pragmatic potential of which is determined by its expressive nature. The subject of research in this article is the relationship and interaction of the functional-semantic category of intensity and the pragmatic category of expressiveness. The issue of distinguishing between the categories of intensity and expressiveness remains debatable, since, on the one hand, they closely interact, on the other hand, the nature of these categories is different, which leads to some subordination of the category of intensity in pragmatic terms, the means of intensification become a tool for creating expressive statements. An utterance becomes expressive by strengthening its emotive and evaluative potential, which is achieved through intensification. In the case of actualization of the emotive-causative categorical semantic complex, we are talking about the interaction of the categories of causativity and emotivity. We observe this interaction during the implementation of the cognitive scenario of causation of emotional modification, which assumes the presence of two mandatory participants – the causator and the object of causation. The issue of distinguishing the categories of intensity and expressiveness remains debatable, since, on the one hand, they closely interact, on the other hand, the nature of these categories is different, which leads to a certain subordination of the category of intensity in pragmatic terms, the means of intensification become a mechanism for creating expressive statements.
