Abstract

The article discusses the importance of the lithological sampling method for searching for diamond placers in the Urals. Using the example of new study areas adjacent to the western flank of the Syuzevsky placer diamond deposit, mineral associations of the heavy fraction of lithological samples taken from the base of the Takata formation in the Yaivinsky diamond-bearing region (Middle Urals) are shown. The results obtained are compared with the results of a previously conducted lithological sampling in the Vishera diamondiferous region (Northern Urals). The similarity of the new data obtained with the already known ones is emphasized. It is noted that the mineral association of the heavy fraction of the base rocks of the Takata Formation in both areas is leucoxene, while the mineral aggregate leucoxene is an indicator for weathering crusts. The data obtained make it possible to recommend a lithological sampling technique for prospecting work in new territories in diamond-bearing areas, in particular, to determine the spatial position of potentially diamond-bearing rocks, their mineral dispersion halos, as well as for the stratigraphic division of “silent” geological strata.
