FEATURES OF FANTASY IN R.F. KUANG’S “THE POPPY WAR” TRILOGY

The research focuses on the analysis of the fantasy genre features in Chinese immigrant writers’ works based on R.F. Kuang’s trilogy “The Poppy War”. The article is concerned with questions about mimicry, “peasant-to-dictator” path, erasure of cultural identity. The study also draws analogies with the works of classical Chinese authors. We explore relationship between the events of the trilogy and real historical facts. The main focus is on the research and analysis of ways of combining different subgenres of fantasy form the distinctive cultural code of R.F. Kuang as a representative of Asian-American authors. The conclusion is made regarding the method chosen by R. Kuang for solving the problem of traumatic experience. This study can be applied to further generalizing and describing the authenticity of the Chinese immigrants’ style.Downloads
